Bitcoin Lightning Network Makes First Transaction Via Satellite
Printer user (@Printer_Gobrrr) successfully tested sending and paying an invoice for the first time Bitcoin Lightning (QR code) via geostationary communications satellite (QO-100/Es’hail-2).
This event demonstrates that transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain can be carried out without access to a mobile network.
Score Bitcoin The Lightning was generated in the user’s wallet and then converted into an image file, which was then loaded into the AMSAT-DL multimedia high-speed modem. This modem is capable of transmitting files using digital modulation.
The Bitcoin supporter’s ground equipment included a dish antenna and a transmission network to send a digital signal. The image was transmitted to a digital repeater on the satellite. The Lightning bill was then transmitted back to Earth via the satellite’s uplink frequencies.
The digital signal was then decoded by the AMSAT-DL modem software, and the QR code was scanned using the Lightning wallet. Even though the transaction was still carried out via Lightning, the payment request was made off-chain.
The first ever Bitcoin transaction was conducted in space in August 2019 by Blockstream Satellite and SpaceChain.
